Establishment

The International Arabic Language Union was established at the First International Conference on the Arabic Language, held in Beirut, Lebanon, from March 19-23, 2012 (corresponding to Rabi’ al-Thani 26-30, 1433 AH). Conference participants sought membership in the Union, which served as the official representative body for conference attendees. The first meeting of the founding members was held, and the Union’s constitution was adopted. Following this, the members of the Board of Directors were elected for its inaugural session. Thus, anyone registered at the conference became a member of the International Arabic Language Union.

The Union’s mission is to be an independent international body dedicated to specialists and those interested in the Arabic language worldwide. It aims to enhance their presence and visibility on the international stage, granting them membership to showcase their efforts, raise awareness of their work, preserve their biographies, and safeguard their publications, which are often lost after their service in governmental and non-governmental organizations ends. The Union seeks to leverage their expertise, experiences, and projects to serve the Arabic language at the national, regional, and international levels. Furthermore, it facilitates scholarly communication among individuals and institutions interested in the Arabic language, its culture, and its diverse literature across the globe. The Union is one of the accredited bodies of the International Council for the Arabic Language, along with other institutions, bodies, and organizations that are members of the General Assembly of the International Council for the Arabic Language.
